This morning we asked Sarah what she wanted to do today as a family. Her response - "Go camping!" We weren't exactly prepared to go camping tonight, but decided a hike up Rock Canyon and then a campfire in the backyard might suffice.
So, we drove up to Rock Canyon. In the parking lot were several horse trailers and, wait for it, horses! Both Sarah and Rachel were quite nervous, but found their courage enough to pet the horse's nose. Then we started hiking up the trail. We started with Rachel in a Snugglie carrier, but she didn't like it and wanted to walk on her own. It was slow going, with a 1 year old and a 2 year old hiking, but we made it up quite a ways. Everytime I would ask "Should we go down now?" Sarah would reply, " No, up!" and take off up the trail. Finally Nathan had to detour us down into the dry river bed so Sarah wouldn't know that we were going down. The last half of the hike down we had to merge back onto the trail and then play "Hide and Seek" (Sarah's favorite game right now), with Daddy taking Sarah and Rachel further down the trail and then hiding off to the side and I would follow and find them. It amazed me how much energy and stamina both those little girls have - they just loved hiking!
The campfire was less then glorious, being at noon and in the sun. Rachel was napping, Sarah and I sat in the shade by the shed, and Nathan sat by the fire cooking the hotdogs for us. Isn't he wonderful?
