My two little girls were playing last night, wrestling around on the floor, when Rachel's head made a sudden, and hard, impact with the step of our brick fireplace. Remarkably, there was little blood and only a few tears, but because it was such a big and deep cut we rushed her off the ER. Nathan took Sarah over to the neighbor's house, only saying "We've got to take Rachel to the emergency room" and handed Michelle our very concerned little Sarah. The nurses and doctors were all super but Rachel loved the fish in the waiting room the best! We had to do a general anesthesia because, well, she's 1 1/2 and wouldn't stay still for the doc to get a nice stitch in place any other way. By the time they finally had the time to do the stitches, she was asleep on the bed and had the most horrible awakening by a shot in the leg! They gave her a medicine that, as the doctor described it, disassociates the brain for the body. She was "awake" the whole time, but just completely out-of-it. The cut was pretty clean, only a minor tear in the underlying muscle (I got to see it, weird!) and it only took 7 stitches to sew up. After the stitching, we had to wait for her to wake up. Oh boy that was funny! She was "high", no coordination, couldn't hold herself up, kept trying to jump off the table, grabbing for things in the air. She came out of it pretty quickly, the doc was impressed, and they finally sent us home. She's grumpy today, but I think it's more from lack of sleep than the stitches.
OH I am so sorry. That looks like it really hurt, but I am impressed with how tough she is. PS:Isnt your birthday coming up?
ReplyDeleteWow! I can't believe how well Rachel took all that! She's amazing! I love the picture of her with her mouth wide open, seriously that is the funniest picture! I was thinking about how I should call you soon and catch up. So, I've been thinking about you and will call sometime to actually catch up :) Hope all is well!
